Don't be Fancy
I was looking for a way to make all of my social media cohesive and decided the banner headings would be a great place to start.
Since I'm not an artist- AT ALL, I starting searching for a graphic designer.
My favorite place to search for a professional that has anything to do with design is Instagram.
The good ones usually post their work on a regular basis, and I like being able to see people's skill level before they give you a sales pitch.
After I found someone, I DM'ed them--is that how you say the past tense lol-- to set up getting the job done.
3 banners-Facebook, Youtube and Twitter- only cost me $50.
Sounds like a steal.
Wrong!
First, the day I paid and accepted the final versions I found out I could have created something for free either using Canva or by watching this YouTube video.
Second, the banners came out a little too fancy. The graphic designer did a good job, but what they created was a little too polished for the "real-life" brand I want to portray.
Lesson learned: when you're starting out, do every design-related thing you can do for free. Design is important, but it isn't the highest ranking factor for views or sales.
Besides, someone has figured out how to get it done for free and it's probably on Youtube.
